SafetySnuba International has developed the safest dive system on the market today. No other dive system produced since the inception of the scuba regulator has a safer history of use. With over 4 million uses, the Snuba dive system is inherently safer than any other dive system on the market today.
According to the Divers Alert Network (DAN), most scuba diving accidents occur when an individual becomes lost, disoriented or left behind when diving with a buddy or group. This scenario cannot occur with Snuba. Every Snuba participant is connected to the surface raft via the airline. A Snuba participant cannot exceed twenty feet of depth and cannot exceed twenty feet of distance from the surface raft at any time. This is a key safety feature inherently designed into the Snuba system.
VisibilityThe Snuba raft is produced from the highest quality materials utilized within the whitewater raft production industry. Material color selection was very important in creating a device on the surface that would be clearly visible by any boating traffic in the dive area.
Inflatable Raft DesignAn inflatable raft design provides excellent head and body protection in case of diver contact with the raft on the surface and to avoid head injuries when surfacing from beneath the raft.
Raft Safety / DesignInflatable rafts provide a higher degree of comfort and safety for the participant than a raft or flotation device made of hard or rigid materials. The Snuba raft includes safety lanyards along the length of the inflatable tubes for easy grasp. The position of the lanyards are placed on top of the raft to enable the participant to hold themselves high out of the water. A forward handle is built into the raft to enable the Snuba Guide to assist or tow the raft whenever necessary. The Snuba raft can support 300 lbs. of weight while remaining buoyant on the surface. A participant may lay on the raft and be supported nearly completely out of the water.
Air Cylindar CompartmentThe compressed air cylinder is secured between the inflatable tubes within the self-bailing center section. The cylinder resides in a compartment located beneath the water level thus lowering the raft center of gravity and increasing stability. The air cylinder is enclosed to avoid participant contact and is secured within the compartment using two velcro straps positioned around the cylinder. The velcro straps will prevent the cylinder from dislodging in case the raft were to roll-over.
Hoses / FittingsAll Snuba hoses utilize specially designed quick-connection fittings manufactured to Snuba International's specifications. Connectors swivel to prevent hose entanglement or kinking and are shaped to prevent accidental disengagement. All Snuba hoses and fittings are manufactured to ISO 9001 standards intended for air breathing. The air lines are designed to a 4:1 safety margin rating of 250 p.s.i. working pressure (Snuba pressure does not exceed 150 p.s.i.) and 300 foot pounds of tensile strength rating for pulling. For reef protection, all Snuba air lines float to reduce potential contact damage to coral. To control the rate of participant ascent to the surface and place them immediately at the raft, a hand-over-hand technique takes full advantage of the Snuba air lines for added safety.
Participant HarnessTo dissipate the forces associated with towing the raft, Snuba developed a unique three-point harness. The harness is connected at the the waist and is adjustable for body diameter and torso length. The tow point is located between the shoulder blades and features an adjustable slide that allows the diver to determine the most comfortable length of hose from the tow point to the 2nd stage regulator. The Snuba harness is separated from the weight belt for safety. Snuba Weight BeltAll Snuba licensee's use a pocketed weight belt system developed by Snuba International. Soft lead weight pouches are used to neutralized participant buoyancy. Extra weights in 2, 3 and 4 lb. increments are located on the raft to make adjustments as may be necessary during a Snuba tour.
Reef AllianceSnuba International was founded on the principal that our future well being will rely heavily on the preservation of our oceans. In 1996, Reef Alliance was formed by Snuba International as a nonprofit entity with the specific purpose of creating greater awareness for the preservation of our coral reefs. Snuba is committed to the protection of the most fragile and endangered ecosystem in the world, our coral reefs. Snuba diving is an activity enjoyed around the world and Snuba International recognizes that the health of our reefs also represents the health of our future business. Snuba licenseeʼs are mandated to respect, share and educate our customers on the fragility of our coral reefs. Since most Snuba participants are exploring the ocean for their first time, Snuba assumes a great responsibility to educate our guest on reef conservation.
